This expression was made famous by “Dirty Harry” Callahan, played by Clint Eastwood in the 1983 classic “Sudden Impact.”
There are many phrases used in everyday conversation to offer friendly greetings around “My Day”. One of these I find most amusing...
“How’s your day going so far?”
It seems most often used by well-meaning store clerks as a way of ‘breaking the ice’ with a customer.
BUT (beware of the underlying truth).
It really shines the light on an almost universal belief that “I” am in control of “my” day or “I” control “my” destiny etc.
There is another phrase that is used by the really, really big egos...
“Carp diem.” Which I think is Latin for “Seize the Day!”
However, from my perspective :), I have zero control over ‘the day’ or what the day appears to have in store. I have zero expectations of the ‘way’ the day should be or could be. The day and everything most tend to classify as happening to “me” is simply the day doing what it does in any moment and this Robert character is simply part of this apparent happening. This might include anything interpreted as being unpleasant or pleasant, wonderful, exhilarating or simply god awful.
BUT, I don't mind what happens!
As a friendly reminder...Nature (the Day) creates many wonderful things: flowers, trees, sunsets...but she also eats her young!
